My words of wisdom:
Science evolves through questioning - inquiry. To be a great learner and love learning, you must ask about everything that you don't know or understand. As both a student and a teacher, I like questions. Never be afraid - ask lots of questions!

About me:

I am very excited about this year and our new science lab classroom, Room 308. We have even more equipment to aid us in our scientific explorations. We invite you to come by to see our classroom and also to view our 4th generation of mealworms under the microscopes. They are interesting and a little scary up close! Science is so intriguing. It also develops logical, step-by-step, thinking that is important in every subject area. Last year, the students learned so much that we look for even greater accomplishments this year. We are “on a stampede to succeed!”

Some personal information about myself: I grew up in a small farming community in northern Illinois. My undergraduate degree is in Elementary Education from the University of Illinois. I have a Masters plus 30 from NSU. I have taught in Illinois, Texas, Vermont, and of course, Louisiana. I taught English as a Second Language for ten of my teaching years. I have also taught preschool through eighth grades, but my favorite grades are fourth and fifth. Science has also become one of my favorite subjects to teach.

My husband of 38 years is David Stevens who has a Masters in Forestry from Stephen F. Austin  State University. David is retired from DuPont Corporation but still works for them on a consulting basis. We have two grown sons who also attended NSU Elementary and Middle Lab Schools. We all love Natchitoches and Louisiana.

The students at E-lab are remarkable, and we’re ready to have an incredible year!
